Travis Kalanick and Garrett Camp founded Uber in 2009. Both entrepreneurs were familiar with success having sold startups that they co-financed for large sums. The idea for Uber started as a timeshare limousine service. It evolved into a ride-sharing service and became the most highly regarded private startup in the world.



The Uber app has a user Special Data base of 110 million.The Uber app pilot program was developed with initial funding of $200,000 and tested in New York and San Francisco . It cost about $200,000 to build the app in beta for the first time. Immediately after this testing and verification phase the company raised $1.25 million for further development. Since then, it has invested billions in its platform , customer support, and advertising. In 2021, Uber is worth almost $100 billion. Compared to its valuation of $60 billion in 2020.The history of this app, beyond the certainly impressive numbers, reveals some interesting themes that should never be overlooked. Every mobile app started by satisfying a need, that is, it was born as a tool . So from the beginning we think of the app as a tool, a useful object that must respond to a specific need.The founders of successful apps have identified a need and found the simplest way to solve it. But the important thing we have learned in these years of development is that the success of a mobile app is always linked to a few features.





There is no need to design an application with dozens of features : one or two are enough to mark the success of an app.Third element that is evident from the Uber example is scalability . An app is launched in its simplest form, especially if it is a start up ( MVP : Minimum Viable Product , as theorized by the Lean methodology), and then the application is gradually scaled up, in step with the needs of the users and with business growth.The fourth element that stands out is the strong investment (to the tune of millions of dollars) in customer support and advertising. In this case a lot of work was done on acquisition and customer satisfaction . This means creating a user centered platform .
